午のオーナメント Chinese Zodiac Ornament 20145.October.2013

古来より馬と人は、輸送、農耕の他　戦等を通して深い関係を保ってきました。
源平屋島の戦で義経をかばい敵の矢に射落とされた継信。その死を大層悲しんだ義経は大事にしていた馬　大夫黒（たゆうぐろ）を継信の供養にと志度寺に寄進しました。ある日その大夫黒が姿を消し、寺人が手を尽くして探しましたが見つかりません。しばらくしてやっと継信のお墓に寄り添うように横たわっている大夫黒を見つけました。寺人が哀れに思い　首のあたりを撫でると大夫黒はほろほろと涙を流し息を引き取ったそうです。
日本在来馬は現在８種現存するものの、いずれも絶滅が危ぶまれています。馬は記憶力が良いため大切に世話をしてくれたり、可愛がってくれた人の顔は生涯忘れないと言われています。奈良時代の「続日本紀」には神の乗り物としての馬「神馬」を奉納したと記されており、現代では「蹴飛ばす」から厄を蹴飛ばす縁起物として置き物やマスコットにも多用されています。

From ancient times, man has maintained a deep relationship with horses through transportation, farming, and in battle fields. Currently existing are eight species of Japan Native Horse but they are under threat of extinction. Horses are said to have great memory and remembers the faces of people who loved and cared for them. In Shokunihongi, a history book on Nara Period, the horses are mentioned as dedication, as Vehicle of God. Today, because of the image of their hind legs kicking, horses are frequently used as a mascot figurine or as a good luck charm to kick the evil spirit away.
